The Christmas jollies are now over and its a time to reflect on the previous year and look forward to the coming year.
Most of us tend to put on a few pounds over the Christmas period – animals can also, often due to a lack of exercise and eating fatty human food. Its a good idea to check the weight of your pet periodically to make sure they are ok.
If they have expanded slightly, perhaps just getting back to a normal routine will be enough. If not, most manufacturers produce a diet or light food to help get your pet’s figure back. Spending extra time exercising your pet will also help, but introduce is gradually – for your pet’s sake as well as yours!
It is easy when its cold and wet to reduce your dogs walk because you may think it will be glad to get home and warm up, but they love to be out and you will feel better too.
The wild birds still need our help as the winter goes on. You can feed the scraps from the festive season, but beware of foods which are highly spiced or salted. We have fat balls which are also great for the birds at this time of year. And once again, don’t forget the water.
The Christmas period was busy in the shop. Mr Phil the owner sent us home on Christmas eve with some nice goodies, which unfortunately I have to share with Mitch.
He never puts on weight as he is still very young and bouncy, but I have to watch my figure. I like to lie in the shop with my eyes closed & listen to the customers and staff.
They always talk about the weather; its either too cold, too wet or too hot! With my coat I’m always just right, and if I do get too hot then I just find some water and jump in.
At least we are having a proper winter this year, I love the snow & frost, but I am lucky as I have long legs. As poor Mitch is only short he gets his belly cold, shame!
