May has been a very dry month in this area. We could blame the volcanic ash from Iceland or the new Government. But the yearly average rainfall is quite constant, so we have either had a lot or we are going to get it.
The summer bedding plants in our borders, baskets and containers will need watering daily to get them established. Dense planting will need watering even if it dose rain as most will run off the leaves & not penetrate the soil.
And For Animals Too…
Water is important to the birds and animals that visit our gardens so make sure they have a good supply of clean drinking water. Birds also like to bath so a suitable shallow container would also be appreciated.
Don’t forget to make sure your pets have plenty of water. They will require more during the hot summer months. If you have small animals outside in hutches & runs make sure they have some shade and shelter in case it does rain.
Woodie has had a visit to the Vets recently due to his ongoing problem of his hips. He has been referred to Langford Veterinary University’s Small Animal Hospital, where they hope to give him a hip replacement.
Important For Dogs
It is important if you are thinking of breeding from your dog to have a health check done to include hips and eyes. If you are thinking of buying a puppy ask if these checks were done and what were the results. This could avoid a lot of problems in later life of your dog.
We will keep you posted on Woodies progress.
Put July 10th in your diaries, we are having a fun open day, with guests here, with information on dog training, micro chipping, and more, so if you are free pop along for a visit
We had another dog staying with us for 10 days during May. She is called Carly and is a yellow Labrador. She is very waggy and always pleased to see people.
We had lots of fun walks together, she sure loved her ball, as well as her food, but then of course she is a Labrador just like me!
She also enjoyed her week of work experience here in the shop and made lots of friends. I of course showed her the best way to butter up the customers!
At Last … The Ferrets!
Last month I promised to introduce you to the ferrets so here they are: Cute little critters aren’t they? They are all girls & their names are Slinky (on the left), Wendy, Rachel, Di, & Lucy.
They are not only pets; because my Master uses them to hunt rabbits and Mitch the terrier goes with him. Certainly keeps him busy on a Saturday morning, so as I can have a leisurely lie in, in peace!
I have an appointment coming up for an important operation soon, which I will tell you all about in the next coming months.
